SBA Egypt Initiative: Assistance to the US Small Business Administration in Execution of a PASA with the US Agency for International Development/ Egypt
Under the auspices of the Gore-Mubarak Bi-national Commission, the U.S. Government is working with the Government of Egypt to promote broad-based economic growth in the Egyptian small business sector. As a result of a March 1997 meeting between Egyptian President Mubarak and U.S. Small Business Administration to the Government of Egypt. The SBA program supports existing U.S. Government program objectives to assist small business development in Egypt and involves a two-year educational and training program that focuses on providing:
- Educational and training workshops and seminars in the USA and Egypt for Egyptian orgranizations that assist entrepreneurs to develop and manage small business
- Educational and trainig workshops and seminars on government procurement, regulatory, program and policy issues for small enterprises
- Guidance for the Government of Egypt in implementing a series of governorate and regional conferences leading to a national conference on small business and microenterprise development similar to the 1995 White House Conference on Small Business
The SBA program outlines a series of eight tasks and corresponding sub-tasks which are envisioned to achieve the objectives of this program. DATEX will facilitate the implementation of these eight tasks as outlined in the Statement of Work. The eight tasks and sub-tasks to be implemented are:
- SME Entrepreneurship Training Program
- Pilot International Trade Training Program
- Training of Trainers
- Establish SBA-like Programs
- Sub-task 1: SCORE
- Sub-task 2: Lending & Guarantee Program
- Sub-task 3: Government Procurement
- Special Projects
- Sub-task 1: SBDC, Incubator, BIC Studies
- Sub-task 2: Programs for Women Entrepreneurs and Women's Business Centers
- Sub-task 3: Aid to Trade
- Sub-task 4: Natinal Conference
