Burundi Health Systems Support Project (BHSS): USAID/Burundi
DATEX fielded a seven member team to work in concert with a USAID-related team and independent experts to develop a ten year Burundi Health Systems Support (BHSS) Project whose goal is to decrease Burundi's population growth rate by strengthening the country's family planning (FP) services and delivery, and integrating child survival (CS) activities. The project focuses on the institutional strengthening of Burundi's Ministry of Health (MOH), as it is the key
health care provider for the country. DATEX developed a project aimed at improving three integral components of Burundi's health care system to impact contraceptive acceptance and overall service delivery. Improving demand for FP methods was anticipated by improving CS and FP. To improve the quality of FP and CS services, DATEX, also created methods to improve capabilities in managing a sustainable service-delivery system. The approach focused on strengthening both public and private FP delivery systems and integrating and improving family planning, reproductive family planning, reproductive health and child survival services in conjunction with the institutional strengthening of Ministry of Health.
